What should I wear?

The most suitable clothes for yoga are breathable and airy, warm socks and a jacket or pullover to stay warm during the relaxation. Those who want to try out yoga for the first time don’t have to buy special yoga equipment. Jogging pants and a comfortable T-shirt are quite enough.
For the Yin yoga take two or even three more layers to wear.

Do I need yoga experience?

No. You don’t have to fulfill any conditions or have any experience to begin with yoga.
The yoga (yes, right, it is THE yoga) picks you up right where you are in your life and it is possible for everyone.

Can I visit a trial lesson?

Of course.
We can organize a trial lesson for you.
Price: CHF 10

What do I have to pay attention for before the class?

Don’t eat and drink anything 1 1/2 (one and a half) hours before the class.
It is important that the stomach is empty, as it makes the forwards exercises and reversing positions more comfortable. If you eat, there is the possibility of not doing the exercises right or that the food goes back into the gullet.
If you are very hungry and haven’t eaten anything before the class, you can eat a small banana.

Do I have to turn off my mobile phone?

You should mute your mobile phone or turn it completely off and leave it outside the yoga studio. Allow yourself to enjoy the time out. The yoga course is your personal space for switching off and regenerating.

I am pregnant, I have a disease, I take medicine or I′m injured. Can I do Yoga?

Pregnancy is not a disease, however, there are some things to take care of. Please let me know if you are pregnant.
The same refers to diseases and taking medicine.
With injuries, it is not recommended to exercise in the acute inflammatory phase, but if you have chronic suffering, Yoga can even help you release the pain.
People with back pain have very good experience with Yoga. Back pain can often be avoided, the back gets strengthened. We can take a look at it and discuss it together.

I don’t feel well, what should I do?

It doesn’t have to be a diagnosis. If you have any physical or mental damages, it is very important to let me know about it. You can reach me any time before the class via mobile phone, Whats-up or e-mail.
I trust you and believe that you will inform me if you have any health problems.
Only in this way it is possible to offer you a suitable yoga class, without having any damages from it, and during the course I can draw your attention on your limits and offer you variations. The responsibility is yours.
It may happen that I have to correct your posture. If you don’t want to be touched, you can tell me this before the class.

What if I am too tired?

Great! Then yoga is the right thing for you to bring you out of your habitual comfort zone. You will be regenerated during the course, refuel new energies and gain freshness and vitality.

Is Yoga dangerous?

We live in a society, which is exposed to competition and comparison. This begins in school with giving marks and continues to the university and labor market. Yoga learning is not a competition. Those who ambitiously try to take or keep a Yoga posture can only harm their bodies and cause injuries.
Therefore, ambition is the biggest danger in Yoga.
Yoga is the opposite of what is going on outside.
In Yoga only the relationship between you and your body is important. You will soon after exercising notice that you feel better.

Take care not to compare to others. There will always be people who are more flexible, who can make the headstand faster or who can keep the crow position longer. Listen to you inner self, find you own speed and limits and become your own expert for your body and spirit.

It may happen that I have to correct your posture. If you don’t want to be touched, you can tell me this before the class.

After the first Yoga classes?

Observe your body during and after the exercises: do you breathe deeper, more relaxed? Are your muscles more or less relaxed?
Do you feel exhausted or refreshed? Is your soul free and relaxed or strained after the exercises?
Whatever it is that you feel it is all right. Each body and each soul handles the first yoga exercises different. Many beginners describe that they sleep better, sit upright and feel better. Those who exercise longer can build up a different self-confidence and life direction.

6 things you should pay attention to

Try out

There are many yoga styles, so the yoga landscape can be confusing at the beginning. There are so many styles because there are so many different people with different life circumstances. Try out, visit different classes and feel inside when you have reached yourself. I will also decide whether you are suitable for my class or not.

Practice regularly

Many people practice yoga because they are stressed, unsatisfied and want to have more peace. Some of them practice regularly, and some only when they feel bad. Our life and our demands are constantly changing. A regular practice can help us to develop a certain strength and trust among all the crises and duties. For this, you don’t have to get up at 6 o’clock every morning and make 108 sun greetings. It is enough to come once a week to the course and you will find you rhythm of life.

Don’t put yourself under pressure

Pressure is the opposite of what we want to achieve with our yoga practice. I have practiced a strict meditation program many years, which was difficult to implement into my life due to changing life circumstances. I quickly became a bad conscience if I could not meet my daily task. Meanwhile I became much calmer. I don’t adjust my life to the program anymore, now I adjust the program to my life. Practicing regularly once a week is quite enough.

“Breathe out slowly, then breathe in and hold your breath. Your soul will become firm and calm.” (Patanjali)

Breathing is an important part of yoga, not only during the breathing exercises (Pranayama), but also during the whole class and beyond that, in your everyday life. The breath is our ticket back to the NOW. That’s why the concentration on our breathing is healing. It helps us gain control over our spirit, which surely is one of the challenging tasks of our life.

Trace

When you have just practiced an exercise, trace it inside you. How did you feel before the exercise and how do you feel now? Make slow movements and take your time.
Don’t hurry and run from one yoga class to the next, but allow your slow movements to make room in your inner self.
Enjoy the stillness by having a tea after the yoga class, so it could have a lasting effect on your life.

Joyful thoughts will relax you

I think, nowadays, the most of us wish to have a great portion of easiness, which helps us to deal with our lives with serenity. We are under tension and stress and sometimes it takes time to let go of the accumulated stress. This is also visible on our faces.

Advice for stress: first, take a deep breath, and then try to perceive your thoughts and direct them to something positive, beautiful. Imagine a picture of this positive thought. If you manage to deal with these positive thoughts for a while, you will notice that you get relaxed. You become calmer, you breathe deeper and your body is noticeably relaxed.
This is a little exercise with big effect.

    Comments about Samtosa Yoga

    Gertrud Hirschi

    Yoga teacher and Author

Yin Yoga headed by Nena is a special treat and pure relaxation – whose effects I could experience myself – a wonderful stress reliever with a lasting impact.
I recommend it! For nearly a year Nena accepts regularly every other week my yoga classes to relieve me. I appreciate her professional competence, knowledge, commitment, reliability and our wonderful co-operation. All of us (the course participants and I) appreciate her compassion, helpfulness and her friendly and lovable nature. Stay as you are and go on- dear Nena!

Years ago I had a yoga class in a fitness studio, when I thought yoga is nothing for me. Then, 3 years ago I tried it again and went to a Samtosa Yoga class and I was delighted. I learnt to know that yoga is not only a few movements. Nena has the great talent to lead the participants and take care of them, so they don’t go beyond their own limits. It is an absolutely new experience for me, and since I have been attending her yoga classes I can’t imagine my life without it anymore!

Meanwhile, my daughter also attends Samtosa Yoga classes. With my daughter I had some doubt, because it is a very lively child, who can’t sit still. But also here has Nena’s talent and aura triggered a feeling of passion with my daughter, and she is really enthusiastic about children yoga.

Since 2014 I have been attending Nena yoga and I am totally delighted. Before that, I had tried out many things and dropped each of them. Here I have found myself. This yoga fits me 100% regarding professionalism, context and personality.
